Nova is an open-source video player that is designed for tablets, phones, and AndroidTV devices. It is a universal player that can play videos from various sources, including your computer, server, NAS, and external USB storage. The player also has an automatic online retrieval feature that retrieves movie and TV show descriptions with posters and backdrops. Additionally, it has an integrated subtitle download feature that supports various subtitle file types.

Nova is considered the best player because it has hardware-accelerated video decoding for most devices and video formats. It also supports multi-audio tracks and multi-subtitles. The player supports various file formats, including MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, and FLV. It also supports various subtitle file types, including SRT, SUB, ASS, and SMI.

Nova is TV-friendly and has a dedicated "leanback" user interface for Android TV. It also has AC3/DTS passthrough on supported hardware, 3D support with side-by-side and top-bottom formats playback for 3D TVs, and an audio boost mode to increase the volume level.
