Astrospheric is a weather forecasting tool designed specifically for North American astronomers, astrophotographers, and explorers. The platform utilizes astronomy data from various sources, including the Canadian Meteorological Center and NOAA, to produce a highly accurate 48-hour forecast for any location in the continental United States or Canada. The platform overlays cloud, transparency, seeing, and light pollution data onto a map, making it easy to search for the nearest break in the weather.
Astrospheric offers a range of features, including an 84-hour, hour-by-hour forecast, an extended 8-day cloud forecast, and updated data every 6 hours. The platform also provides infrared satellite data updates every 30 minutes, as well as sky data such as cloud, sky transparency, smoke, and seeing, and ground data such as wind, temperature, and humidity. Additionally, Astrospheric offers precise rise and set times for both the sun and moon, ISS path information, and custom notifications for favorite locations.
The platform also includes a map feature that displays cloud, transparency, smoke, and seeing map layers for most of North America, as well as satellite data, jetstream, aerosol optical depth, and ground layers. Users can easily scrub through the 48-hour forecast with each layer and access worldwide light pollution data. Astrospheric also provides precise altitude and illumination information for the moon, as well as a list of upcoming moon phases with dates. Users can save favorite locations for easy access, and the platform offers site mode information necessary to quickly set up a GOTO tracking mount, even without a network connection.
It is important to note that data is only available for the continental USA, Canada, Alaska, and parts of Mexico. Users in Hawaii may not have access to data on the platform.
