511PA is a mobile application provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) that offers real-time, hands-free traffic advisories for all PennDOT roadways in Pennsylvania, as well as major roadways in neighboring states. The app uses your phone's GPS and data from the PA, NJ, and WV travel information system to alert you when you are approaching congestion, accidents, or other traffic disruptions. The advisories are broadcasted audibly, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

The app allows you to customize the range and frequency of the advisories, as well as filter out certain types of advisories or limit them to the direction you are traveling. It also provides audio player controls for play, pause, stop, skip, and replay, although these should not be used while driving. If you receive a phone call while an alert is playing, the alert will pause and resume once the call ends. The app operates anonymously and does not collect any identifying information about you or your phone, although it does collect device-determined speed and location data by default. However, you can opt out of this data collection if you prefer.

It is important to note that the app should only be launched when you are not operating your vehicle, as using interactive wireless communication devices while driving is prohibited by the Commonwealth Motor Vehicle Code. Users are expected to use the app responsibly and avoid any interaction with mobile devices while driving.
